With the global costs of managing acid generating waste running into the billions of dollars annually, Global Aquatica with its IP-protected BioAqua system is poised to capitalise on an opportunity potentially worth millions of dollars in the Australian market alone.
The costs of remediating historic mine sites releasing acid mine drainage (AMD) run in excess of $100,000 per hectare, payable even if discovered late in mine life or after mine closure. AMD becomes a serious source of environmental and financial liabilities to mining entities.
Global Aquatica is able to offer two significant advantages through its unique and highly scalable BioAqua product: remediation of wastewater runoff and extraction of minerals and metals which can be resold.
Long after those mines are closed, the effects of acid mine drainage continue to manifest and contaminate waters as well as ecosystems.
This is an economic and ethical win for mining entities, governments, and the environment. BioAqua is able to offer solutions in Australia and potentially globally that are NATA tested and accredited and which substantially exceed irrigation and livestock guidelines.

Global Aquatica has worked collaboratively with industry, government and environmental bodies to develop a solution to eliminate AMD. Since 2014 the company has been rigorously testing our patented BioAqua technology, and we are on track to build a full-scale product solution in 2020.
BioAqua offers five unique solutions:
• Lower Cost: Substantially lower CAPEX and OPEX than alternatives
• New Revenue: Enables a mine to earn while eradicating harmful waste
• Long Life: Increases mine lifespan, boosting profits, while remediating the environment
• World First: BioAqua uses recycled green waste, converted into nutrients for the bacteria that power our remediation process
• H2-Wow: Better quality water than existing processes. Reduced sulphate levels surpass EPA requirements.
This means mining and government clients can earn revenue while cleaning the environment and eradicating contamination.
Proof Of Concept
To date, Global Aquatica’s 2-stage BioAqua purifying and extracting process has been implemented at the government-owned Brukunga mine site in South Australia as well as in the Angas Mine, also in SA. GA has secured their first commercial contract with Frances Creek Mine in the Northern Territory to build a 1ML (mega-litre) treatment plant with potential to scale up pending initial results.
NATA-accredited results indicate that after application of BioAqua, the treated water:
• Contained no metals
• Exceeds irrigation and livestock guidelines
• Approaches or exceeds Australian drinking water parameters
• Sulphates substantially reduced
GA uses a build, own and operate ‘Build Own and Operate’ (BOO) strategy when it comes to setting up their treatment plants. The BOO fee is a fee charged by GA to the tenement owner to build, own and operate the plant for the duration of its life on the site.

In Australia, which represents only 2% of the global AMD problem, there are over 18,000 AMD-producing mines, with over 600 in need of a critical acid-management solution.
As it stands there is no current method for mines to cheaply and efficiently extract minerals and metals from waste rock, tailings and AMD. The global mining sector can uplift production by 20-40% with BioAqua technology and simultaneously reduce their waste entirely.
GA has huge potential to grow nationally and internationally, being placed in a market where competing products offer superficial and opex-ineffective solutions.
Global Aquatica is raising capital to fund its operational and expansion strategies involving added processing quantities per day, engineering and design, as well as rolling out a national and international operations framework.
The funds will be deployed towards Global Aquatica’s Horizon strategy. Horizon 1 involves establishing a minimum 1ML/day plant, with Horizon 2 scaling purification to 10ML/day within the next 12-36 months and Horizon 3 aggressively pursuing national and international expansion.
The BioAqua system is poised to capitalise on an opportunity potentially worth millions of dollars in the Australian market alone with an international expansion in the 3-year pipeline.
